Questions and Answers

Q. Do Green’s students continue to develop their interest in the environment after completing the program?

A. Although we are still a “young” program, we have been very pleased that our participants have authored or been recognized in fourteen professional scientific publications, and many have followed a path related to environmental interest through competitive colleges, graduate school and into employment.

Q. How can participants grow from this experience?

A. Our programs offer an exceptional opportunity for growth. Participants who have an abiding interest in environmental studies, history, field science, business, economics, Chinese and American culture, politics, international studies, or experiential learning will gain perspective, depth of character, maturity, and a sense of joy and purpose during one of our programs. Participation in Green is a life changing experience.

Q. While a common concern for the environment is what brings Chinese and American students together, do participants broaden their perspectives in other ways?

A. Participants will address some of the world’s pressing problems with experts in a variety of fields while forming enduring friendships with Chinese and American students. Because students work hard and play together, cultural exchange is inevitable.

Q. Will this program help with admission to a competitive college?

A. Our students have gained admission to very competitive colleges. Upon request, we provide each participant with a recommendation for college. These recommendations are powerful in helping students gain admission to competitive colleges. In addition, Champlain College offers 3 science credits for our domestic program.

Q. In this age of increased international tension, how safe are Green’s programs?

A. Our experience since the first expedition to Hong Kong in 1995 has allowed us to develop safe and organized programs both in Vermont and in South China. Chinese educators and organizers work with our experienced and enthusiastic staff in both locations. Traveling students are insured through CMI Insurance for travel and medical risk oversees. We work with your insurer for medical risk domestically. We do everything that we can to make certain that your daughter or son has a safe, challenging and enjoyable experience.
